Unsay Imong Lingaw?

Cebuano friends who know I am visiting my family here in the U.S. have asked me, “Unsay imong lingaw dinha?” This means, “What have you been up to there?” or “What fun things have you been doing there?”

Here go my dozen fun deeds:

1. Driving for my dad and sisters
Fun factor – “Been there, done that” elation

2. Doing the laundry
Fun factor – Separating the whites from the colored ones and taking out the lint from the dryer

3. Vacuuming
Fun factor - The compulsion to leave straight marks

4. Reading
Fun factor – The challenge to read and understand as much as I can in the least amount of time; actually reading the minds of the authors; amusing thoughts written in books like “Depth cannot be taught” from The Cardinal Sins

5. Traveling to different parts of the US
Fun factor – Learning more about the world and oneself; the envy of friends who are wanderers like me mwahahahahaha (You know that I am joking right? Hehehe)

6. Visiting friends and family
Fun factor - Breathing in a different country with people you know from your homeland who speak your language (Ironic huh that the language of this blog is English?); renewing ties; and pointing out familial traits and characteristics

7. Celebrating special occasions like birthdays and special holidays with family
Fun factor – Love in the air; songs and dances; cakes and lechon

8. Doing Shibashi exercises
Fun factor - Keeping in touch with my eastern roots; the look on my family’s faces; the promise of a healthy lifestyle

9. Watching T.V.
Fun factor - Watching Grey’s Anatomy, 24, and Entertainment News (I miss Monk)

10. Watching Videos
Fun factor – Watching videos

11. Checking the mail
Fun factor - The excitement of finding out if there’s DVD from Blockbuster online (free plug)

12. Learning a different language while climbing up and down the stairs
Fun factor – Laughing at myself for being so TH, hahaha! (At least laughter is a universal language)

Ikaw, unsay imong lingaw?
